Fall fishing is upon us in the Ponce Inlet area and with a drop in humidity, it just feels like fall has arrived after our long hot summer! Comfortable temperatures, less rainfall, and superb fishing are what fall in the central Florida region is know for.
Bull reds are one of the main highlights of fall fishing. Large numbers of ocean going fish arrive in accessible areas and provide some of the best fishing of the year. Snook fishing is also at some of its best of the year, and the mullet run also gives us intense fishing for big aggressive jack crevalle. Nearshore fishing on the days without northeast winds, we still occasionally have a few chances at tarpon. October is typically our last tarpon month of the year in the Ponce Inlet area, but when opportunities present themselves, we immediately make them the priority! Sight fishing season in Mosquito Lagoon is gearing up and as soon as the fall fronts start rolling in, the fishing on the lagoons shallow flats heats up. Redfish in particular are especially active during this time of year, but there are also opportunities at sea trout, black drum and even the occasional snook. The transitional period from fall into early winter provides some of the best flats fishing of the year and it’s an exciting change from our summer season!
