We’re a decent way through our winter season now and it has been a great one for sure. Overall we have had above average amounts of nice weather with many sunny and calm days. We did have a hard freeze at the end of January but it does not appear to have killed many of our snook although it did damage a lot of mangrove foliage.
Since the freeze passed, we have had great fishing with lots of shots at redfish and drum on just about every day we have fished this year. There are still some really nice sea trout around as well that were unharmed by the cold temperatures. The fish will continue to stay active as we maintain cooler water temperatures through mid spring and prey animals get even more active. Our shots vary from schools of hundreds of fish to small groups of tailers and even individual fish. Fly rods and spin tackle are both prime choices to target with during these sight fishing opportunities. We do also fish occasionally with live baits using other methods than sight fishing so all skill levels of angler are able to have a great time catching fish even if they don’t have much casting experience.
