It’s been a fun winter season so far in the central Florida area with a lot of great fishing. We have had a less windy than normal winter with many sunny days that have offered us great conditions for enjoying the seasonal fishing options. Winters in this part of Florida are usually mild with a few cooler weeks spread out through the winter months. We are lucky to have a very good winter fishery here though with fishing that can be as good or even better than any fishing we have during the warmer months of the year.
Our primary focus during the winter months is flats fishing in mosquito lagoon. This lagoon that stretches 33 miles from Ponce Inlet in New Smyrna Beach, FL down to the NASA Kennedy Space Center. This fishery is known for its shallow grassy flats where we target redfish, black drum and sea trout. We generally sight fish to these either individuals or schools of fish using fly and spin tackle. Winter time temperatures do not negatively impact the behavior of these species allowing us to target them all winter long. The fishing this year has been on target with the fishery being productive enough to offer us great fishing in almost any conditions for sight fishing. From skilled anglers to novices, the type of fishing we have been experiencing is sure to please
