The last week or so has been a bit out of the normal summer pattern in the Ponce Inlet area with clouds and higher than normal winds, but we have still been catching some nice fish!
On the calmer days we have still been able to get off both Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach targeting tarpon with opportunities at big jack crevalle and sharks mixed in. On the days with a little more wind and clouds we have switched to targeting redfish in the Ponce Inlet area with good result, landing some of our typical large sized bull reds. Mosquito Lagoon has still been clear enough for sight fishing with both spin and fly rods and will hopefully remain that way over the next month. Capt. Billy Rotne Ponce Inlet Fishing Charter

As we enter the early stages of our summer season, the fishing has been great recently in the New Smyrna Beach, Daytona Beach and Ponce Inlet area. Daytime highs in the low to mid 80’s and still relatively dry weather have made days on the water really nice lately.
The big bull redfish bite has been outstanding and we’ve been catching some really large fish in the 40lb class. Fish this size are truly special and very memorable for my anglers to catch. We are just weeks away from our early summer tarpon arriving which along with bulls reds, will give us some incredible opportunities for both spin and fly anglers. These fish are also giants, averaging at or above 100lbs. Now is the time to plan your summer trips, we get incredibly busy over the next few months so make sure you lock down the dates you want as soon as possible! Capt. Billy Rotne Ponce Inlet Fishing Charters All the areas we fish have been productive this past week. We had some great days fly fishing for redfish, trout and snook in Mosquito Lagoon, and also caught some big bull redfish and nearshore species in the bay boat. Great weather earlier this past week have us some excellent sight fishing and allowed us to catch a bunch of great fish, including some first redfish on fly!
Nearshore and in the inlet channels we caught some huge redfish and had a blast with thousands of 5-8lb false albacore blitzing all around us. A true tuna, they are a great target for light fly and spin tackle. Tarpon should start arriving any time now with this warmer weather, this looks like it will be an especially productive year for tarpon due to the warmer than usual start to the season. I can’t wait to put my anglers on these fish, they are truly the apex gamefish of our nearshore and inshore fishery. Capt.
