As we enter the early stages of our summer season, the fishing has been great recently in the New Smyrna Beach, Daytona Beach and Ponce Inlet area. Daytime highs in the low to mid 80’s and still relatively dry weather have made days on the water really nice lately.
The big bull redfish bite has been outstanding and we’ve been catching some really large fish in the 40lb class. Fish this size are truly special and very memorable for my anglers to catch. We are just weeks away from our early summer tarpon arriving which along with bulls reds, will give us some incredible opportunities for both spin and fly anglers. These fish are also giants, averaging at or above 100lbs. Now is the time to plan your summer trips, we get incredibly busy over the next few months so make sure you lock down the dates you want as soon as possible! Capt. Spring has fully sprung along central Florida’s coast. The last of the cold fronts is behind us and the years warm weather patterns are starting to shape up. It won’t be long now before our summer species like tarpon and big jacks are here off Daytona and New Smyrna Beach and ready to target.
Currently, we are in the final portion of Cobia season, with the last opportunities at fish occurring likely over this coming week or so. Big redfish are beginning their summer patterns and providing some exciting fishing for both spin and fly anglers. This can be one of the most fun times of year to target our resident bull reds! Capt. Billy Rotne Ponce Inlet Fishing Charters This coming week should bring more consistent spring patterns and steady, stable warm weather as we push through spring and into summer. One last cold front this past weekend should be the end of the cool weather this season.
Big reds have been the most available fish with some nice ones caught this past week in the Ponce Inlet and New Smyrna Beach area. The bite from these fish is only going to improve as our weather patterns get more stable and warmer. Some of Mosquito Lagoon remains clear and the sight fishing has been pretty good for back country reds. Cobia season may be winding down as the fish migrate further to the north past Daytona Beach and out of our reach in the coming weeks, but hopefully we will get a few more opportunities this week!
