This coming week should bring more consistent spring patterns and steady, stable warm weather as we push through spring and into summer. One last cold front this past weekend should be the end of the cool weather this season.
Big reds have been the most available fish with some nice ones caught this past week in the Ponce Inlet and New Smyrna Beach area. The bite from these fish is only going to improve as our weather patterns get more stable and warmer. Some of Mosquito Lagoon remains clear and the sight fishing has been pretty good for back country reds. Cobia season may be winding down as the fish migrate further to the north past Daytona Beach and out of our reach in the coming weeks, but hopefully we will get a few more opportunities this week! As we have passed the first day of spring for 2021, the season is falling into place and the fishing and weather patterns are really awesome this time of year. No more cold days and soon our favorite warm water species like Tarpon will be back in the area and giving us opportunities.
Cobia fishing off the Daytona Beach and Mosquito Lagoon coast has been late to arrive this year but we are getting some fish and having fun doing it. Our bull redfish are feeding well and their spring and early summer patterns are shaping up just as planned. We have caught some spectacular fish this past week including one fish that was almost 50lbs. Black drum fishing is winding down but we are still getting a few really nice fish here at the end of the season. It’s only a matter of time before the tarpon show up, and with the bull redfish already doing their thing, now is a great time to fish central Florida! Capt. Billy Rotne Ponce Inlet Fishing Charters With only a couple weeks to go before spring, things are going great for fishing. We are already experiencing great temperatures and fishing in the Ponce Inlet and New Smyrna Beach areas of central Florida.
Cobia fishing should be happening within a week or two at most, we just need a little calm weather and a slight increase in ocean temperatures off the Mosquito Lagoon through Daytona Beach area. That’s going to happen very soon and when it does, it won’t last long. Cobia fishing is very popular and I only have a few possible dates left open so give me a shout if you’re looking to get out during this opportunity. Big bull redfish and drum have been a steady option for us over the last couple weeks with every trip being successful in landing some very large fish. The fishing for the redfish will only get more active as we enter warmer months. The black drum fishing is nearing its seasonal end as the fish begin migrating north with spring starting. Capt. Billy Rotne Ponce Inlet Fishing Charters This past week has been challenging weather wise with the start of our rainy season and a couple tropical waves which subsequently turned into land falling tropical systems in the Carolinas, but the fishing has remained good. We have been catching a lot of fish in both the bay boat and the skiffs.
In the bay boat we have been catching a lot of big bull reds on almost every trip. The bite should remain strong through June. Tarpon have also showed up and we have been hooking a few on both bait and fly. The back country fishing has been good for redfish and trout with fly and spin tackle, recent rains increased the water height and will have the fish hunting shallow in the far reaches of the back country very soon and should make for some great sight fishing!
