Weather seemingly can’t get much better than it’s been this past week in the Ponce Inlet and New Smyrna Beach area. Spring is definitely arriving and the fishing will be getting better and better as it does.
Cobia are late this year with water temperatures still a bit too cold, but it almost certainly can’t be more than a week or so before they arrive. It won’t be long before these fish are swimming along the beaches from Mosquito Lagoon to Daytona Beach. March cobia days are almost all filled with a couple days left but I still have some days left in early April. Big black drum and bull reds have been the focus for the past week with some giant drum up to 60+ pounds being caught. These giant fish will be here for a few more weeks before beginning their migration back north to Pamlico Sound and Chesapeake Bay. Big reds will remain and will only get more active as the next few weeks come.
